Wapping Wharf is set to welcome another exciting new addition, with the arrival of Rice Box - a vibrant Malaysian street food concept bringing South East Asian flavours to Bristol’s harbourside.
Founded by former nuclear engineer Kit Lee, Rice Box is Kit’s second opening after Fat Rice, which began life seven years ago as a market stall at Tobacco Factory Sunday Market. Over time, Fat Rice has grown into a beloved fixture on Bristol’s street food scene, drawing on Kit’s childhood in Kuala Lumpur and his passion for recreating authentic Malaysian dishes in the UK.
Building on the success of Fat Rice, Kit is now launching Rice Box as its next chapter - a sister concept designed to evolve the brand and expand its offering. Rice Box will open at the new kiosk units at Wapping Wharf on Thursday March 5th, marking a major milestone for the business with its first permanent harbourside home.
The new unit will allow Kit to expand the menu beyond what was possible at the market stall, offering new items that pay homage to his Malaysian upbringing. Customers can expect a menu full of traditional and inspired dishes including noodles, signature rice boxes, and rotating specials that showcase the diverse tastes of Malaysian cuisine.
Speaking about the new opening, owner Kit said:
“Whenever we visited Wapping Wharf, we have always dreamed about the possibility of joining the community here. There are so many food businesses we admire, and it feels like such a privilege to now be a part of it and have something unique to offer in return!”
Speaking about the newest addition to the Wapping Wharf community, Stuart Hatton, managing director at Umberslade, said:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Rice Box to Wapping Wharf. Malaysian street food is full of flavour, and Kit’s passion for sharing authentic dishes makes him the perfect addition to our community of independent food retailers.”
Rice Box will open at Kiosk 4, Wapping Wharf, BS1 6ZA on March 6th.
